About the speaker:
Shalmali Guttal is the Executive Director of Focus on Global South. She is with Focus from 1997 and has worked in India, the United States, and mainland Southeast Asia. Since 1991, she has been researching and writing and building campaigns on economic development, trade and investment, debt, poverty and ecological and social justice issues in Asia – especially the Mekong region and India – with emphasis on peoples’ and women’s rights to resources. She has written a number of books and articles on trade, land rights, poverty, food security etc.
