Dear readers,

Welcome to Energy Matters, a monthly newsletter which offers updates on the latest developments in the energy sector; and analysis of the impacts, politics, investments, and science of those developments.

This month we start with a column from Soumya Dutta on the Energy profile of G20 countries and how (non) compliant they are with the climate change targets.

As the biggest coal mine auction that India has ever seen is going to take place, right after all those promises and tall claims at various climate summits, we are releasing a statement by people’s movements.

A Global Plastics Treaty is being negotiated under the aegis of UNEP. We have been involved in this process since the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) 1 which was held from November 18 – December 2, 2022, in Uruguay. We present in this edition of the newsletter a written submission that CFA made during the INC1 and a submission it has made towards INC2, which is to be held in May 2023.

As we embark on this new journey, we look forward to your suggestions and ideas on how we can make the newsletter more relevant and interesting to you!
