A Three-Day Residential Workshop

Dates: 24–26 June 2026
Location: Pune (Venue to be confirmed)

About the Workshop

We live in a time when a single post can spark a movement and a single lie can derail one. Social media has transformed how stories are told, how narratives are built, and how power is contested. For those of us working in civil society, activism, and journalism, it is no longer enough to simply be present on these platforms. We need to understand them, use them strategically, and tell our stories in ways that cut through the noise.

Reclaiming the Narrative  | Storytelling Through Social Media Workshop is a three-day residential workshop for CSO professionals, activists, journalists, campaigners, communicators, and researchers who want to go deeper, beyond likes and shares, into the politics of the platform, the craft of the story, and the power of the narrative.

This workshop is not social media training in the conventional sense. We are not teaching participants how to grow followers, optimise engagement, or boost posts. Instead, the workshop aims to build a deeper understanding of the social media ecosystem and strengthen participants’ ability to tell powerful, credible, and impactful stories within it.

Through discussions, hands-on exercises, group work, and peer learning, participants will explore how narratives are created, amplified, contested, and transformed in digital spaces.

Why This Workshop?

Social media has become one of the most important arenas where public opinion is shaped and political struggles are fought. Algorithms influence what we see, corporations determine the rules of engagement, and misinformation often travels faster than facts.

For organisations, movements, journalists, and activists, the challenge is not merely to communicate, it is to communicate effectively while remaining credible, ethical, and grounded.

This workshop seeks to address questions such as:

  • How do social media platforms shape public discourse?
  • What makes certain narratives dominant while others remain invisible?
  • How can civil society organisations build compelling stories without compromising complexity?
  • How do we respond to misinformation and disinformation?
  • What role do visuals, videos, writing, and design play in digital storytelling?
  • How can storytelling contribute to movement building and social change?

This workshop is intended for:

  • Civil Society Organisations (CSOs)
  • Grassroots activists and community organisers
  • Communication Professionals and independent media practitioners

We particularly encourage applications from individuals engaged in public-interest work, advocacy, community mobilisation, research, communications, and social justice initiatives who are interested in strengthening their storytelling and narrative-building capacities through social media.

A Certificate of Completion will be provided to all participants who successfully attend the workshop.
