Women are already playing diverse roles in renewable energy activities as energy consumers and beneficiaries, as micro entrepreneurs, extension workers and caretakers, and as leaders, networkers and lobbyists. As energy consumers and end-users, women have also contributed to the design of household energy technologies and projects. Apart from focusing on the need for a gender perspective to energy, the interview feature on Gender and Energy in RE Matters, an initiative of Centre for Financial Accountability, intends to throw light on the increasingly non-traditional roles played by women in energy technology development and use in India, and the interlinkage between Energy access and economic empowerment of women in the country.
