Break Free From Plastic Asia Pacific, Centre for Financial Accountability, and Pacific Environment are pleased to invite you to the panel session The Petrochemicals Expansion and BRICS’ Path to Climate Neutrality, conducted as part of the 2021 People’s Forum on BRICS. This virtual event, 90 minutes in duration, will take place on Wednesday, 20th October 2021 at 5:00pm GMT+5:30 (India time).

During this webinar, a series of five presentations from civil society leaders and a moderated Q&A will focus on the challenge to global and BRICS climate neutrality aims posed by the petrochemicals industry’s planned expansion over the next decade. Topics of discussion will include general details of the planned expansion, its climate impacts, the current investment landscape in BRICS, and how civil society can engage. Presentations will cover China and India, two of the main countries where petrochemicals capacity increases are slated to occur, as well as Russia and South Africa.

Featured speakers include Vladimir Chuprov of Greenpeace Russia, Swathi Seshadri of Centre for Financial Accountability, Zhao Zhong of Green Camel Bell, Xuejing Chen of Pacific Environment, Bobby Peek of Groundwork South Africa, and Tom Sanzillo of IEEFA.
